Because tens of thousands of documents need batch OCR input into excel, it is necessary to “agile develop” a batch OCR program. In this context, it is planned to complete the development and use of the exe program in 10 days. Time is tight and the task is heavy, but fortunately it has been completed.

Selection of OCR model

In the case of tight time and heavy tasks, the existing production-level model is the focus of consideration, mainly looking at the OCR model with relatively high github ranking. The first one is paddleocr, which is one of the open source OCR models of Paddle. For further understanding, Paddle and industrial OCR such as paddlehub can be used. For the stability of the OCR program, I first tried the OCR module of paddlehub. As a result, the OCR of the hub will recognize the vertical line between cells as “1” or “|” when recognizing the table. This is only one of the problems; The other is that the newline text in the same cell can not be recognized as a whole, and multiple lines are divided into different string ones, which leads to the increase of work complexity in the later excel classification.

Had to abandon paddlehub and experiment with paddleocr instead. The result is surprisingly good. It can also jointly recognize adjacent cell strings like strings 身份证号码|xxxxxxxxxxxxxx, and without recording vertical lines into strings, different string lengths in the same cell can also be jointly recognized as a single string. This is very surprised, the same company’s products, how to identify the effect of such a big difference..

Construct the recognition function

This part is simple, because the model is ready-made, you can set the required parameters according to the requirements.

This discrimination is based on the content information of the table you want to identify. I have made more than ten discriminations here, that is, there will be more than ten columns on the final CSV. Each discrimination is basically the same, fine-tuned according to the offset of the identified content.

Programming interface based on PySimple Gui

This GUI package is very friendly to people who have difficulty writing interfaces. I spent a lot of time studying Pyqt5 it before, but because the open source protocol and development process of this package are too complex, I abandoned it. Originally, I wanted to ask my colleagues to help me write an interface in C + +, but then I happened to see this GUI package and was shocked. It’s really friendly to my kind of chicken.

I will not repeat the simlegui specific document here. The code is super long, isn’t it? The main reason is that there are many discriminants, and although the correct rate of paddle’s model is very high, there are still some recognition flaws. For example, some rare words appear in some rare place names, and it is understandable that paddle can’t recognize them. Here, it is good to use the string replacement after discrimination. Similarly, if there are other problems, do a few more judgments, the actual running time of a document recognition is very fast, about 10 seconds can classify all the information into a picture, so the judgment can save a lot of post-processing time.

QPT packaging

This part is thanks to 大佬 the open source packaging tool for deep learning. QPT has been used as an example of packaging program by paddle official forum. I began to use pyinstaller to package various environmental problems. By qpt, there are only a few small environmental problems left. Although there is nuikta such a powerful package, I am used to using pyinstaller, and the solution I found only saw QPT working. In order to save time, I directly used the existing solution. I suggest readers to look at nuikta when they are free later. My plan is to take a look at this thing later.

On the other hand, in fact, QPT packaging is also very simple. The packaging code has been given very concisely in 示例, and we just need to adjust it according to the requirements.

There are still two problems.

One is that the environment is not fully packaged. The paddleocr Chinese recognition package under the path C:\Users\jerry\.paddleocr\whl is not packaged into the environment by qpt. When configuring under a new computer, the environment still needs to be migrated manually. But this solution is also very simple, using the syntax of the command line to make a .bat file can actually be very easy to solve. But in fact, this tool is developed for our own people to use, I did not do this thing (mainly I do not know bat language).

Another problem is that when trying to define a custom icon for the program, the parameters are set, and the final packaged program is not brought, I do not know whether there is a problem with my settings or the problem of qpt itself, but anyway, the same reason is for our own use, it does not matter if the icon is not an icon.

The final packaged program comes with two folders, which the author also wrote in the introduction. What the program looks like:

At this point, the task of agile development is over. It took less than a week, thanks to paddleocr’s powerful recognition model and qpt’s powerful open source packaging.
